PARAMUS, N.J., April 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Hudson City Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ: HCBK) , the holding company for Hudson City Savings Bank, reported today that net income for the first quarter of 2009 increased 44.0% to $127.7 million as compared to $88.7 million for the first quarter of 2008. Diluted earnings per share increased 44.4% to $0.26 for the first quarter of 2009 as compared to $0.18 for the first quarter of 2008. The Board of Directors declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.15 per share, a 7.1% increase as compared to $0.14 per share from the prior quarter.
